Rookie Sensation Spencer Strider is “HERE TO STAY”
By Brooke Evans
After the reigning World Series champions faced a seven-to-six loss against the Philadelphia Phillies this past Tuesday in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, the Atlanta Braves are grateful they still got one win under their belt; a six-year $75 million dollar contract investing in rookie pitcher Spencer Strider. Just less than 24 hours before first pitch, the Braves made this big move and investment towards their future.
NL rookie of the year frontrunner and bushy mustache, right-handed pitcher for the Braves Strider has been all the buzz around Atlanta for his first season. Approaching their first game of the NDLS, fans were awaiting news of Strider’s eligibility to play due to his recent move to the 15-day injured list after a left oblique strain on September 18th. Come Monday morning 9:30 am, the news Braves nation has been waiting on was released. Strider's name was listed on the roster prior to Game 1 of NDLS, but this was quickly overlooked as news broke that Strider agreed to the 75 million dollar contract to play in Atlanta until the 2028 season.
Braves instagram made a post on Monday morning with the headline “Here to Stay” and a caption that reads all the details included in the contract.

The six-year contract agreement entailed a $22 million option with buyout for 2029. Without the extension, Strider would have been eligible for free agency after the ‘27 season, states MLB. The contract has tied the 23-year-old with 100 mph fastballs to the Braves.
Strider says he was eager to get a deal done because of “the commitment to winning not just right now but in the future With the guys that are in his clubhouse.” says The Washington Post.
After the loss of game 1, Braves are off to a rocky start. Braves Pitcher Max Fried took the mound last night. Strider did not make an appearance.
Do the Reigning Champions still look strong going into the NDLS? Will Strider be a key player in defending the Braves Championship title this season? Off to a rough start as game 2 tonight is postponed due to weather conditions, start time is TBD as the rain continues to fall at Truist Park.
